Hague Williams: UX Design Informed by Art & Education
My background weaves together art, education, and UX design, resulting in a unique approach to crafting engaging digital experiences. Holding an MFA in Print Media from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a Masters in Art Education K-12, my skillset encompasses visual storytelling, pedagogical principles, and a deep understanding of how people learn and interact with information. My multidisciplinary studies and years of experience developing art curriculums and guiding creative projects have shaped my design philosophy:
Structure + Intuition = Engaging Experiences
I believe in crafting user experiences that are not only functional, but also visually compelling and emotionally resonant. My work leverages my artistic expertise to create digital narratives that are both informative and aesthetically pleasing. I'm committed to continuous learning and growth, constantly exploring new technologies and design trends. My aim is to create digital experiences that are both beautiful and impactful, enriching every user's journey.
Projects
Dunn Engineering
The Dunn Engineering website redesign was a comprehensive project covering the entire process from concept to post-launch support, including a redesign of the logo. It began with thorough research and client collaboration to ensure the design aligned with their vision. Wireframes and mockups were created, refined, and approved before moving into development using WordPress to build a responsive and accessible site. Content was optimized for both user experience and search engines, with extensive testing conducted to ensure a flawless launch. Post-launch, the client's team received training for site maintenance, and ongoing support was provided for any future technical needs. This successful project highlights a commitment to quality, user experience, and client satisfaction through a collaborative and detail-oriented approach.
Landrum City Website
The Landrum City website redesign was a fun project to work on. The new site is much more user-friendly, especially for mobile users. The old site needed to be outdated, which made it difficult for residents to find information. I conducted thorough research to identify key pain points, such as challenges accessing schedules and outdated content. Using this research, I developed personas to guide the design process, starting with paper wireframes and moving to a low-fidelity prototype using Adobe XD.
Accessibility was a primary focus of the redesign, and the final website includes features like large tabs with symbols, optimized font sizes, and carefully paired images and text. With the redesign complete, the following steps are to continue usability testing, refine the calendar design, and work on strategies to engage the community with the new website.
Catwalk Institute, New York
The Catwalk Institute oversees the Catwalk Art Residency and Catslair, providing both short- and long-term retreats focused on exploring landscapes while aiming to establish a unique sanctuary for artistic endeavors and scholarly pursuits. My responsibilities encompass website management, creating tailored designs for projects, and offering counsel on public relations materials. The institute underwent a website overhaul to bolster its visual identity, user experience, and functionality. This included developing a contemporary brand identity and logo, simplifying the application process, organizing website content for seamless navigation, ensuring accessibility across devices, improving visual elements and content for effective storytelling, and incorporating user testing to refine and enhance the overall user experience.
Foothills Quilt Trails
The Foothills Quilt Trails site underwent a thorough makeover to modernize its brand, streamline quilt discovery, and enhance user interaction. The updates included a fresh logo honoring quilting traditions with a modern touch, a more straightforward quilt selection process through improved site navigation and mapping, and overall enhanced accessibility across devices. Continuous testing and refinements ensured a user-friendly experience, resulting in a revitalized brand, improved user interaction, and seamless website-quilt exploration.
